INVITATION TO APPLY
 

ALGBTICAL seeks to financially award counselors who participate in professional activities that raise awareness of and advocate for sexual minorities. Activities must support the ALGBTICAL mission.

 

ALGBTICAL MISSION


To promote greater awareness and understanding of sexual minority issues among members of the counseling profession and related helping occupations.

To develop, implement and foster interest in charitable, scientific and educational programs designed to further the human growth and development of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) clients and communities.

To protect from harm LGBT individuals by language, stereotypes, myths, misinformation, threats of expulsion from social and institutional structures and other entities, and from beliefs contrary to their identity.

To provide educational programs and resources to raise the standard of practice for all counselors who serve LGBT clients and communities.

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

Who is eligible to apply?  Counseling graduate students and professionals are encouraged to apply.  Applicants should be ALGBTICAL members.

 

EXAMPLES

 

Here are some examples of professional activities that may qualify:

--Research directly related to sexual minority issues

--Poster sessions at state, regional and national conferences

--Conference and workshop presentations

--Advocacy activities or programs promoting sexual minority issues

 

AWARD AMOUNT

 

Award winners will receive between $100 - $300 depending on what is requested, the need of the applicant, the number of applicants seeking awards, and ALGBTICAL budgetary considerations.

 

Award winners will also receive 1 scholarship to attend the ALGBTICAL Winter Workshop and showcase their work.

 

TIMELINE

 

--September 30:  Application Deadline

--November ALCA Conference:  Awards Announced at ALGBTICAL Reception
