STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
ALGBTICAL Mission
The mission of the
Association of Lesbian, Gay Bisexual & Transgender Issues in Counseling
of Alabama (ALGBTICAL) is...
To promote greater awareness and understanding of sexual minority issues
among members of the counseling profession and related helping
occupations.
To develop, implement and foster interest in charitable, scientific and
educational programs designed to further the human growth and
development of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) clients and
communities.
To protect from harm LGBT individuals by language, stereotypes, myths,
misinformation, threats of expulsion from social and institutional
structures and other entities, and from beliefs contrary to their
identity.
To provide educational programs and resources to raise the standard of
practice for all counselors who serve LGBT clients and communities.

MEMBERSHIP
ALGBTICAL
Division
Membership is open to
all members in good standing of the Alabama Counseling Association (ALCA).
Persons desiring to become members of this division must select the
division on the ALCA membership application form and submit payment for
the appropriate amount for division dues. Annual membership dues
for ALGBTICAL is $5.00.
Membership is open to all counselors who are ALCA members. Counselors
working in schools, colleges, agencies, institutions, or any
variety of settings are invited to join. Counselors working in mental
health, rehabilitation, education, corrections, and private practice are
invited to join.
Membership is open to any counselor who has an interest in learning more
about LGBT issues. Counselors may join ALGBTICAL because they have LGBT
students or clients and seek resources to better serve them. Counselors
may join ALGBTICAL because they want to be allies or advocates for LGBT
people. Counselors may join ALGBTICAL because they believe in human
rights issues. Counselors who join ALGBTICAL may be LGBT or straight. No
assumption is made regarding the sexual orientation of any ALGBTICAL
member.

The Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Issues in Counseling of Alabama (ALGBTICAL) is an official state
branch of the national organization, the Association for Gay, Lesbian &
Bisexual Issues in Counseling (ALGBTIC), and is an official state division of the
Alabama Counseling Association (ALCA).
The Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Issues in Counseling (ALGBTIC)
is an official division of the American Counseling Association (ACA).
