WINTER WORKSHOP 2010
The theme of the workshop was “LGBT Issues and Spirituality.” Excellent guest speakers and panels of experts were featured. We were pleased to feature Beth Cook as our keynoter.
Beth Cook is a licensed professional counselor with over 15 years of experience in a variety of mental health settings, the last five years in private practice. Beth has a special interest in the spiritual aspects of health and utilizes a therapeutic approach that blends practices such as mindfulness, dream work, meditation, art and writing with cognitive-behavioral techniques for changing negative thought and behavior patterns and working towards health and wholeness. Beth will graduate in April from the Spiritual Direction program of the Haden Institute in Flat Rock, NC, a program which embraces the wisdom of all faith traditions. This two year program was undertaken in order to better integrate a spiritual dimension into the therapeutic process. Having seen LGBT family members and life-long friends struggle for acceptance and equality, Beth feels passionate about working with this community as a counselor and advocate. The intersection of LGBT issues and spirituality has a particular significance to Beth and is the subject of her research project at Haden.
