Report: Born Gay?
There are few
issues as hotly contested — and as poorly understood — as
the question of what makes a person gay or straight. It's
not only a political, social, and religious question but
also a scientific question, one that might someday have an
actual, provable answer. The handful of scientists who work
in this under-funded and politically charged field will tell
you: That answer is a long way off. But as Lesley Stahl
reports for the CBS News 60 Minutes TV program, their
efforts are already yielding tantalizing clues. One focus of
their research is twins.

Bill O'Reilly
Misinformation
Despite claiming gay marriage is "not a big issue" to him,
O'Reilly issued a smorgasbord of gay marriage
misinformation. On his radio and television shows,
Bill O'Reilly offered up numerous falsehoods and
misrepresentations while discussing the Senate's
consideration of a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex
marriage. View a video clip from the June 5th O'Reilly
Factor television show, presented by Media Matters.

Gary Bauer Misquotes Polls
On Fox, Gary Bauer claimed Americans think
constitutional ban on gay marriage "is
important"; polling shows otherwise. On Fox
News' The Big Story with John Gibson,
American Values president and former GOP
presidential candidate Gary Bauer asserted that
"the American people" believe that a
constitutional ban on same-sex marriage "is
important." In fact, according to recent
polling, when asked to prioritize the most
pressing issues facing the country, most
respondents have cited the war in Iraq, the
economy, energy prices, terrorism, and
immigration, but very few listed same-sex
marriage. View a video clip from the June 5th
John Gibson Big Story television show, presented

Brokeback Mountain Movie Critiques
Conservatives quick to opine on
Brokeback Mountain's "agenda,"
slow to actually see film. Several
television and radio commentators
have either hosted debates or openly
questioned what they claim are the
insidiously progressive goals of the
award-winning film Brokeback
Mountain, yet many of the same
commentators openly admit they have
not seen it. View a video montage,
presented by Media Matters.
